Don Towsley

Don Towsley received a B.A. degree in physics and a Ph.D. degree in computer science, both from University of Texas. He is currently a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. Professor Towsley has been a Visiting Scientist at AT&T Labs – Research,IBM ResearchINRIA Microsoft Research Cambridge, and the University of Paris 6.Dr. Towsley’s research interests include network measurement, modeling, and analysis. He serves on the editorial boards of Journal of the ACM and IEEE Journalof Selected Areas in Communications, and has served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking and on numerous editorial boards including those of IEEE Transactions on Communications and Performance Evaluation. He has been active on the program committees for numerous conferences including IEEE Infocom, ACM SIGCOMM, ACM SIGMETRICS, and IFIP Performance conferences for many years, and has served as Technical Program Co-Chair for ACM SIGMETRICS and IEEE INFOCOM, and IFIP Performance conferences. He has also served as Chair of the IFIP Working Group 7.3 on computer performance measurement, modeling, and analysis, and as an officer or advisor of ACM SIGMETRICS and ACM SIGCOMM. He is one of the founders of the Computer Performance Foundation.Dr. Towsley has received the 2007 IEEE Koji Kobayashi Computer and Communications Award , the 2007 ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award, the 2008 ACM SIGCOMM Award, the 1999 IEEE Communications Society William Bennett Award, and several conference and workshop best paper awards. He is also the recipient of the UMass Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Research and Creative Activity, the University of Massachusetts Chancellor’s Medal and an Outstanding Research Award from the College of Natural Science and Mathematics at the University of Massachusetts. He has twice received IBM Faculty Fellowship Awards, and is a Fellow of the IEEE and the ACM.
K. K. Ramakrishnan
AT&T Labs Research – Leading Invention, Driving Innovation
Dr. K. K. Ramakrishnan is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Labs-Research. He joined AT&T Bell Labs in 1994 and has been with AT&T Labs-Research since its inception in 1996. Prior to 1994, he was a Technical Director and Consulting Engineer in Networking at Digital Equipment Corporation. Between 2000 and 2002, he was at TeraOptic Networks, Inc., as Founder and Vice President. Dr. Ramakrishnan is an AT&T Fellow, recognized for his fundamental contributions on communication networks and lasting impact on AT&T and the industry, including his work on congestion control, traffic management and VPN services. He is an IEEE Fellow, and has received other awards. His work on the “DECbit” congestion avoidance protocol was recognized in the 1995 retrospective issue of ACM Sigcomm Computer Communication Review as one of the 16 most important papers published over the previous 25 years in ACM Sigcomm publications. The work once again received the ACM Sigcomm Test of Time Paper Award in 2006. He has published nearly 200 papers and has more than 100 patents issued in his name. K.K. has been on the editorial board of several journals and has served as the TPC Chair and General Chair for several networking conferences and has been a member of the National Research Council Panel on Information Technology for NIST. Dr. Ramakrishnan is involved in a variety of technical activities including Content Delivery, Cloud Computing, and Network Architecture at AT&T Labs Research. He is also involved in setting strategic direction for research activities in AT&T Labs Research. His recent efforts have been in Video Delivery, both in the context of IPTV as well as over the AT&T Mobility networks. He has also been involved in AT&T’s efforts to ‘Network the Cloud’ and in the recent research on Information Centric Networking. K. K. received his MS from the Indian Institute of Science (1978), MS (1981) and Ph.D. (1983) in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA.

Chung-Sheng Li is currently the director of the Commercial Systems Department, PI for the IBM Research Cloud Initiatives, and the executive sponsor of the Security 2.0 strategic initiative. He has been with IBM T.J. Watson Research Center since May 1990.His research interests include cloud computing, security and compliance, digital library and multimedia databases, knowledge discovery and data mining, and data center networking. He has authored or coauthored more than 130 journal and conference papers and received the best paper award from IEEE Transactions on Multimedia in 2003. He is both a member of IBM Academy of Technology and a Fellow of the IEEE.He has initiated and coinitiated several research programs in IBM on fast tunable receiver for all-optical networks, content-based retrieval in the compressed domain for large image/video databases, federated digital libraries, and bio-surveillance.He received BSEE from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, R.O.C., in 1984, and the MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989 and 1991, respectively.
