What to do in Stockholm

Stockholm is best visited in June when the locals are still there and when it is warm and the sun raises at 03.30 and sets at 22.00! Explore what is offered at the tourist boards site Visit Stockholm

Below are a few tips from us locals:

Eating and drinking

Stockholm has a wide selection of restaurants from the best in Sweden, Esperanto and Oaxen, the unique and fiery Ekstedts over to simple but good fast food. Here are some tips.

Swedish food is well served at Tradition, Den Gyldene Freden (in operation since 1722) and Operabaren (wonderful art nouveau interiors); for a real Swedish smörgårdsbord, visit Grand Hotel The Veranda

Foodies will get surprised at Punk Royal and the low-budget Café; less brutal but good are Lilla Ego, Derelict, Agrikultur, Volt, Adam/Albin, Speceriet and Nook

Outdoor

If you enjoy running, then bring your gear along. Stockholm is flat and you can run along the water on many of the islands within the city, like Djurgården and Kungsholmen.

There are also beaches in the city where you can go for a fresh-water swim (fresh and perhaps even chilly): Brunnsviksbadet, Rålambshovsbadet, Smittska udden.

There is hiking in Tyresta national park, 45 minutes from the city (served by public transport).

The Stockholm archipelago is a dense scatter of islands and islets. Can be seen by a boat from the city.
